The share of electric vehicles and hybrids in new passenger car sales for the week of September 19-25 reached a record 14%. Cars with onboard charging accounted for 11.5% of the market, said analyst Sergey Tselikov.
Plug-in hybrids accounted for 8.5% of sales, electric vehicles for 3%, and conventional and mild hybrids for 2.5%. For 39 weeks from late December 2025 to September 27, 2026, the cumulative share of cars with charging was exactly 10%. In this period, PHEVs accounted for 5.9%, BEVs for 1.2%, and HEVs and MHEVs for 2.9%.
The growth in electric vehicle sales began in the second half of the year, driven by fuel problems at gas stations. Demand for plug-in hybrids surged, but dealers were unable to meet it, leading to a statistical dip. Now, supplies have normalized, and the share of electric cars is growing weekly.
Among hybrids, Voyah Free leads, among electric cars – Nissan Leaf, and in the PHEV segment, Evolute i-Space pulled ahead in the first half of September.
