At the Atommash plant in Volgodonsk, the modernization of Russia's only 15,000-ton double-acting hydraulic sheet metal forming press has been completed. The update affected the hydraulic and electrical parts of the equipment, as well as the control and diagnostic systems, the project's executing company reported.
The main innovation is the replacement of manual press control with an advanced automated system. This system allows real-time monitoring of equipment operating parameters, displays the status of mechanisms, and quickly detects technical malfunctions.
The press itself is designed for forming large metal blanks used in the production of equipment for nuclear energy. According to AEM-Technologies, it can form bottoms up to 5 m in diameter from blanks up to 380 mm thick.
The press upgrade has practical significance for the production of reactor equipment: Atommash continues to produce reactor vessels and steam generators for Russian and foreign nuclear projects. In 2026, the plant, in particular, is involved in the manufacture of equipment for the El Dabaa NPP in Egypt and the Akkuyu NPP in Turkey.
