The Russian electric car "Atom" has finally reached the production line. Its serial production has begun at the Moskvich plant in Moscow. Among several domestic electric car projects of recent decades, "Atom" has become the only one to reach the level of factory production.
The "Atom" electric car was developed from scratch on its own technological platform. Production at Moskvich follows a full technological cycle, including the setup and calibration of electronic systems. In the near future, the plant will be able to produce up to 20 "Atom" electric cars per shift, and by 2027, production volumes are planned to gradually increase.
According to Igor Povarazdnyuk, CEO of the "Atom" brand, the car's localization level reaches 70%. This allows "Atom" to be called the most highly localized electric car in Russia.
Rosatom produces battery packs and electric drives for "Atom". The car's range is up to 500 km according to the WLTC cycle on a single charge. The 150 kW (204 horsepower) electric motor allows the electric car to accelerate to 100 km/h in 7 seconds.
Electronic systems were also a key focus in the creation of "Atom"
A proprietary operating system was developed for the car. It integrates information projection onto the windshield, a touch display on the steering wheel, and a voice assistant.
Cameras, sensors, and radars monitor the operation of driver assistance systems. They ensure the functioning of the ADAS 2+ complex.
The car features an unusual system of automatic swing doors without a central pillar. The car can also be controlled via a mobile phone.
The serial version of the software, released in autumn 2026, includes over 500 user functions. These include six driver assistance system functions, algorithms for controlling automatic doors, navigation via AR projector and screen, integration with online services, and a mobile application for passengers.
One of the key updates by the end of the year should be the automatic parking function. Developers also plan to gradually increase the number of user functions.
The "Atom" project belongs to JSC "Kama" and was founded in the summer of 2021. It is being implemented with the support of Rosatom State Corporation, Kamaz, the Moscow Government, PSB Bank, development institutions VEB.RF, the Industrial Development Fund, and RDIF.
