The Russian T-72B3M is not allowed to simply stop and turn off its engine during tests. According to the testing program, the vehicle must keep its engine running throughout the entire cycle, reported the Zvezda TV channel.
The tank is put through maximum speeds, off-road conditions, and various temperature regimes. Simultaneously, the operation of all its systems is checked — from the power plant to the combat compartment equipment.
The testing program prohibits turning off the engines, because a tank battle can last several hours, and all this time the tank's systems must operate flawlessly.
This tests not only the engine's lifespan. Prolonged operation allows for the identification of problems that may not manifest during short runs: overheating, equipment malfunctions, failures of individual components, and the consequences of constant load.
Recall that the T-72B3M is equipped with a V-92S2F four-stroke diesel engine. Its 1130 hp allows the combat vehicle to accelerate up to 80 km/h. The power units are built at the Chelyabinsk plant "ChTZ-Uraltrak".
