RZD changes open-plan carriage beyond recognition: 58 seats, shower, and enlarged shelves

Each seat will have a curtain, its own 220V outlet with USB, a lamp, and an individual air duct

RZD presented a new version of the open-plan carriage, which managed to simultaneously increase capacity from the usual 54 to 58 seats and add something not usually expected from the budget segment: a separate shower cabin and two restrooms. At the same time, passenger seats received individual curtains, their own outlets and air ducts, and the shelves themselves became longer and wider.

The increase in capacity by four seats was not a result of compacting the standard layout. The new carriage is made in an enlarged T-gauge: the passenger compartment has become longer and wider, thanks to which the designers added another four-seat compartment. As a result, there are 7.4% more seats than in a standard open-plan carriage, but the dimensions of the main sleeping berths have increased.

Transverse shelves gained 14 cm in length and 3 cm in width — up to 189.1 × 62.7 cm. Side seats became 10 cm longer and 4 cm wider, reaching 187.5 × 58.5 cm.

At the same time, each passenger receives their own set of equipment: a curtain to separate from the aisle, a personal lamp, an air duct, a table, a 220V outlet, and a USB port. The carriage also provides two sanitary rooms and a separate shower cabin — a solution that was previously more characteristic of premium comfort carriages.
