The re-engining program for operational SSJ-100s may face an economic limitation: airlines are not ready to independently finance the replacement of power plants. Aeroflot CEO Sergey Alexandrovsky stated that without state support, the fleet of these aircraft will gradually shrink.
It is only possible with certain state support measures. If there is no subsidization of re-engining, there will be a gradual retirement of the fleet for all companies operating SJ-100s.
The problem is that this is not about scheduled maintenance, but about expensive modernization of aircraft already in operation.
According to Kommersant, the cost of re-engining one SSJ-100 is estimated at 2 billion rubles. At the same time, the Russian version of the SJ-100 is already designed for two PD-8 engines, so the technical basis for transitioning to a domestic power plant is the serial production program of the new aircraft.
Without subsidies, carriers will have to choose between investing in re-engining and gradually phasing out older SSJ-100s from their fleet. Aeroflot expects to compensate for the possible reduction in carrying capacity by more intensive use of other aircraft and deliveries of MC-21s.
