Severstal received a patent for a pulsed welding method for cast iron products, which extends the service life of repaired parts. The development is intended for repairing cast iron structures, including those with cracks.
The proposed technology includes several stages. First, the damaged area is prepared: the surface is cleaned, and the crack edges are grooved by grinding, extending 5–6 mm on both sides from the crack ends. The groove depth should not exceed 2 mm of the base metal thickness. Then, the surface is degreased, and the product is heated to 150 °C.
After this, welding begins in an argon atmosphere using nickel wire. The process runs in pulsed mode with a frequency of 20–25 seconds, wire feed speed of 15–20 m/min, and voltage of 25 V. This mode ensures high-quality connection and high seam reliability. The method can be applied in mechanical engineering, metallurgy, and other industries where cast iron equipment is used.
