The Zaporizhzhia NPP has been receiving electricity for its own needs solely from diesel generators for 11 days, following the disconnection of the last external "Ferrosplavnaya" line. Alexey Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom, spoke about the current situation on August 31.
The plant's external power supply was lost on August 20 after the damage to the 330 kV high-voltage line "Ferrosplavnaya-1". After its disconnection, the plant's systems routinely switched to backup power from diesel generators.
Currently, one of the main tasks is to maintain the necessary supply of diesel fuel and simultaneously restore external electricity supply. Rosatom expects to deliver fuel to the plant with the escort of an IAEA staff convoy.
Preparations for the repair of the damaged line are underway. A temporary ceasefire is required for the work. According to Likhachev, they expect to achieve it this week.
The head of Rosatom also noted that the Russian side's estimates of the ZNPP's autonomous operation duration significantly differ from the IAEA's estimates.
Earlier, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi reported that, according to the agency's assessment, the available diesel fuel reserves would last for approximately 10 days. Rosatom disagreed with this assessment and called the provision of fuel to the plant one of the key tasks.
The "Ferrosplavnaya-1" line remains the last disconnected external line through which the plant received power. Its restoration should return an external power source to the ZNPP and reduce the load on the backup generator system.
