By 2035, every fourth passenger car produced in Russia will be equipped with an electric or hybrid powertrain. However, internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles will still form the basis of production. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov at a meeting with Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
According to the target scenario of the automotive industry development strategy, by 2035, the production volume should reach 2.8 million vehicles per year, Manturov added. The share of Russian products in the domestic market is planned to be brought up to 80%, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.
The current capabilities of enterprises are designed to produce more than 3 million cars per year, he reminded. For comparison, in 2025, about 853 thousand cars were assembled in the Russian Federation. The key task is not only to maximize production capacity but also to consolidate series (increase the output of similar products).
For the passenger car segment, the benchmark is at least 500 thousand cars per platform per year. That is, on a single base for models with different body types – sedan, crossover, hatchback, and station wagon.
Consolidating series has a significant economic effect. This will reduce the cost of the car and increase the efficiency of equipment operation. Thanks to this approach to production organization, factories will be able to release new models faster.
