The introduction of the digital ruble into circulation will not lead to a significant reduction in the volume of cash. This opinion was expressed by Anatoly Aksakov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on the Financial Market.
Russians who are used to paying in cash are unlikely to switch to paying with digital rubles, Aksakov explained. In addition, the appearance of savings in tokens should not be expected either, he added.
Since no interest is accrued on digital ruble accounts, citizens and businesses will not keep large sums in digital wallets.
The largest banks of the country must provide Russians with the opportunity to make payments in tokens from September 1. A digital wallet can be created in the mobile application of a credit institution.
The use of digital rubles will help track financial transactions and suppress illegal activities. At the same time, the Central Bank of Russia emphasizes that tokens do not replace other forms of the national currency. They can be used to pay for goods and services, including communications and the Internet.
