Ozon is changing the operating model of its more than 80,000 pickup points. They are planned to be transformed into small logistics centers where goods can not only await customers but also be stored for subsequent sale.
The first stage begins on September 10. If a person cancels an order or does not pick it up within 14 days, the item can be left directly at the pickup point. There, it will be processed, put into storage, and displayed again on the Ozon storefront. When a new buyer appears, a courier will pick up the item from the point and deliver it to the required address.
For sellers, the payment scheme will remain familiar: Ozon will charge a commission for sales, delivery, and other standard marketplace services. There will be no additional charge for storing goods at the pickup point at this stage.
Sellers will not be able to retrieve such goods immediately – until the end of October, they can only be sold off. Later, Ozon promises to add a withdrawal option.
The second stage will begin in mid-October. Sellers will be allowed to bring goods to pickup points and partner pickup points themselves, and also use the nearest point as a shipping location: goods can be left there, and Ozon will then transport them to the desired location.
In fact, pickup points will become part of the marketplace's warehouse network. This will allow more goods to be stored closer to customers and reduce the need to transport canceled orders back to large warehouses.
