Starting September 1, Russians will be able to open a digital ruble wallet directly in their bank's mobile application. A separate button with the logo of the new form of national currency will appear on the main page, said Alla Bakina, Director of the National Payment System Department of the Central Bank.
First, you need to make sure that the bank is connected to the Bank of Russia's digital ruble platform. In the initial phase, the function will be available in 12 systemically important banks and several other credit organizations recognized as significant in the payment services market.
Through the application, it will be possible not only to open a wallet but also to use digital rubles for payment. In a store, you will need to scan a special QR code, select digital ruble as the payment method, and confirm the transaction.
Starting in September, large retail chains with annual revenues exceeding 120 million rubles will begin accepting such payments. Later, this obligation will gradually extend to smaller sellers.
The digital ruble is issued in addition to cash and regular non-cash money. Currently, operations are only available to pilot participants, and mass implementation will begin on September 1, 2026.
