Smart EW that the enemy doesn't have: "Yastreb-1.0" enters the home stretch

The complex operates above Starlink frequencies, without gaps from 100 MHz

The Russian intellectual electronic warfare complex "Yastreb 1.0" has entered the final stages of field testing: the new product is being debugged, JSC "NPP" reported. The development is recognized by experts as a breakthrough in its class — the complex combines EW and electronic intelligence functions.

The key feature is the rejection of the traditional "barrage" architecture with heavy jammer generators. Instead, "Yastreb" scans a wide range of 100–6000 MHz, detects the operating frequencies of drones, and suppresses them precisely, without jamming the entire air and without affecting its own communication means. This allows for effective combat against drones using frequency-hopping spread spectrum mode.

The frequency range of "Yastreb" covers most of the spectrum used by modern communication systems — including Starlink satellite internet, which operates in the Ku-band (10.7–12.7 GHz). Although the system does not directly jam Starlink, its ability to scan and analyze a wide frequency band makes it a versatile tool for reconnaissance and suppression of a wide range of electronic means.

This is already intelligent EW, which detects the frequency on which the enemy UAV is flying, and precisely acts on it, even when its communication begins to jump to other frequencies. This can be compared to the action of a surgical scalpel that cuts out the desired area, and not the flailing of a chainsaw that leaves a bunch of holes for bypassing interference. The enemy does not have such developments in series, although they are also moving in this direction.

A new approach to EW in Russia

The editorial board has been following the development of "Yastreb 1.0" from the very beginning. In mid-2025, we reported how engineers at JSC "NPP" were just beginning to calculate the antenna unit of the future complex, working with software-defined radio technology and planning to cover the range from 50 MHz to 6000 MHz. It was also stated then that the system should effectively counteract drones with pseudo-random frequency hopping.

A similar approach — targeted impact on the drone's operating frequency without broadband "cluttering" the air — is also observed in other modern Russian developments. For example, the "Solaris-NS" complex from Rostec also combines detection and pinpoint suppression in one solution, operating in the same 100–6000 MHz range.
