Russia invests in Asia: Nanotechnology production and drug manufacturing to be organized in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur has opened its market to Russian medical equipment

Russian and Malaysian authorities are working on establishing a joint venture (JV) in nanotechnology (process management on a 1-100 nm scale) in the kingdom. This was announced by Valery Falkov, head of the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education, at a meeting of the Joint Russian-Malaysian Commission.

According to him, the companies "Rusnano" and "Nanomalaysia" have already established contacts. The JV will help commercialize existing nanotechnology developments.

We expect the signing of a corresponding agreement on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum in September 2026.

In addition, Russia plans to organize the production of its own medicines in Malaysia. Pharmaceuticals are a promising area for cooperation, Falkov added.

Russian medical equipment is already known in the kingdom. Companies that bring their products to a new market establish direct contacts. Malaysia, for its part, is also interested in attracting Russian investments, the minister concluded.

The meeting of the Joint Russian-Malaysian Commission is taking place on August 13 at the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU). The agenda includes issues of trade and investment partnership, including in energy, the agricultural sector, space, science and education.
