Composite An-2 Revived After 10 Years Without US Honeywell Engine

The newest VK-1600S engine will become the base not only for the modernized An-2, but also for the all-composite TVS-2DTS aircraft. This was reported by "Aviatsiya Rossii" with reference to the contract between ODC and the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

According to its information, during the VK-1600S certification, a condition was set to ensure system interaction with the TVS-2DTS.

The section on implementation directly states that the engine will be used as part of the An-2, TVS-2DTS, and other small-sized aircraft.

The TVS-2DTS is an experimental all-composite light multi-purpose aircraft developed by SibNIA named after S. A. Chaplygin as a replacement for the An-2. It made its first flight in 2017.

However, the prototype was built based on the American Honeywell TPE331-12UAN turboprop engine and foreign avionics. In its original form, it never went into production.

Earlier it became known that the 1600 hp VK-1600S will also become the base for the revived An-2, for which SibNIA was appointed as the developer.
