After 60 years, Russian companies will return to Afghanistan's energy sector. Representatives of "Silovye Mashiny" and local operator DABS have begun discussing the repair and modernization of power plants in the republic.
Afghan and Russian energy specialists held a meeting in Kabul, where they discussed the overhaul of power plants in Afghanistan, equipment modernization, and expansion of generating capacities.
Currently, many hydroelectric power plants continue to operate in the country, a significant portion of which were built with the economic and technical support of the USSR.
This refers to the Pul-e-Khumri-II, Darunta, and Naghlu HPPs. All of them were built between 1960 and 1968.
Russia also plans to supply equipment for hydroelectric power plants to Argentina. Deliveries are scheduled for 2027.
Prior to this, Kazakhstan revised the construction of a new unit at the Ekibastuz GRES-2 and rejected Russian turbines and generators in favor of Chinese supplier Harbin Electric International.
