A new mobile launcher for the S8000 "Banderol" cruise missile, previously associated primarily with aerial platforms, has appeared in Russia. This is reported by Defence Security Asia.
Previously, the S8000 "Banderol" was considered an air-launched missile, carried by the Orion drone. According to open sources, the developer of the complex is the Kronshtadt company. It was reported that the missile is about 5 meters long, has a body diameter of about 30 cm, and is capable of reaching speeds of up to 620–650 km/h.
The appearance of a ground-based version could change the complex's application scheme: a mobile launcher would allow missiles to be deployed in various positions, reducing dependence on aerial platforms such as the Orion (Inokhodets) and the Mi-28N helicopter. However, the exact characteristics of the new launcher and its status have not yet been officially disclosed.
The S8000 "Banderol" has previously attracted attention due to its unusual combination of cruise missile characteristics and attack drone features. According to open sources, its range is estimated at approximately 500 km, and its design includes a jet engine and elements characteristic of unmanned systems.
