An engineer from Kursk has developed and patented a new type of inertial engine, in which energy is accumulated using two flywheels operating inside a vacuum chamber. The design is intended for drive systems of transport, industrial equipment, and other devices where storage and subsequent transfer of mechanical energy are required.
The patent for the development was received by Eldar Manashirov. The document for the invention "Inertial Engine" was registered by the Federal Service for Intellectual Property on July 27, 2026.
The system is based on a block of two flywheels, placed in a sealed vacuum chamber and mounted on a common shaft or coaxially.
The peculiarity of this design is that the flywheels rotate in opposite directions. According to the author, this reduces vibrations and minimizes the influence of gyroscopic forces arising during the operation of massive rotating elements.
An electric motor-generator connected to the system's shaft is used to spin up the flywheels. The kinetic energy obtained can be transmitted through a clutch and a cardan shaft to an external load or converted back into electricity when the engine operates in generator mode.
The vacuum chamber around the rotating elements should reduce air resistance, thereby reducing energy losses during flywheel rotation.
The design also includes a battery that powers the electric motor-generator.
