The Perm plant "ODK-STAR" is implementing a new technology for manufacturing casting tooling. The development will allow for faster production of complex parts for PD-8 and PD-14 engines while simultaneously reducing their production cost.
The new approach was presented by process engineer Anna Smolyakova. She proposed manufacturing molds not by traditional methods, but by using two industrial 3D printing technologies simultaneously.
The most critical elements are intended to be printed on SLA printers for high precision and surface quality, while other parts will be printed on more affordable FDM printers.
The use of additive technologies will shorten lead times, save materials, optimize processes, and allow for control over the geometric accuracy of the dimensions of tooling for investment casting.
The development is planned to be used in the creation of tooling for foundry production. It is precisely these technologies that allow for faster production of complex-profile castings, which are necessary for the manufacture of modern aircraft engines.
