At Perm-based ODK-Aviadvigatel, where the promising PD-35 is being created, a project was presented that reduces the operating costs of power plants. It was developed by Alexey Kamenskikh, head of the air intake support team.
The engineer proposed replacing the coating of the leading edge of the air intakes for the PD family of engine installations.
This will reduce the life cycle cost of the engines without changing their basic design.
ODK noted that the PD-35 has already received more than 2,300 parts manufactured using additive technologies.
Aviation expert Roman Gusarov explained that the PD-35 will be the pinnacle of domestic technologies, but its development is more complex than launching a space rocket. There is currently no specific carrier for it.
Rostec CEO Sergey Chemezov stated in December 2025 that the state corporation expects to receive a type certificate for the PD-35 within two to three years.
