Moscow is rolling towards human-free delivery: rovers deliver 1,500 orders per day

More than 400 vehicles are already operating in 51 districts, and the average wait time is about 15 minutes

Robot couriers in Moscow have already moved beyond individual test neighborhoods. More than 400 rovers deliver over 1,500 orders daily in 51 districts of the capital, with an average waiting time of about 15 minutes.

Recently, the service's geography has been expanded to include 31 more districts. New models of Yandex rovers have received updated suspension and a more powerful computing unit, allowing them to better handle curbs, uneven surfaces, and complex routes.

The movement trajectory is now built by a neural network. Thanks to these updates, the average delivery time has been reduced by approximately 10%, although robots still have to share sidewalks with pedestrians, cyclists, and other urban transport.

Currently, rovers complete their route at the building entrance, but the next stage could be delivery directly to the apartment door. The Institute of Robotic Systems is discussing an experiment with the humanoid robot Arcus with Moscow authorities, which they plan to conduct in several districts by the end of 2026.

Such a device will have to independently enter buildings and ascend to recipients. The cost of one Arcus is estimated at approximately 1.8 million rubles, so the technology is initially planned to be tested in a limited format.
