Russia's only aircraft carrier, "Admiral Kuznetsov" of Project 1143.5, has reached the end of its service life. The reason for this is faulty boilers, which made it impossible to repair the ship's engine, according to 19fortyfive.
The engines were so bad that the aircraft carrier usually had to be either towed or escorted by tugboats.
In July 2025, the "Admiral Kuznetsov" was intended to be mothballed. According to various estimates, about 100 billion rubles were spent on the ship. According to the latest information, the aircraft carrier is stuck motionless in Murmansk.
Former Pacific Fleet Commander Sergey Avakyants warned that even if mothballed, the cruiser would still require a crew of over 150 people.
Currently, the cruiser is at the outfitting quay of the 35th Ship Repair Plant. Whether any work is being carried out on it is unknown.
