A welding robot launched at VLMZ: production of railway parts became faster and safer

The new complex can operate 24 hours a day, and component manufacturing has accelerated by 20%

A new robotic welding complex, designed for high-precision operations in serial production, has started operating at the Voronezh Locomotive Repair Mechanical Plant (VLMZ). The equipment has increased the productivity of the section by 10% and reduced the duration of technological processes by 20%.

The new complex is designed for the production of railway automation products and has taken over the most labor-intensive welding operations where stable quality of each joint is required.

The installation includes an industrial welding robot with a lifting capacity of 16 kg and a rotary positioning device. All welding stages are performed automatically: the system maintains specified process parameters, ensures uniform seam geometry, and can operate continuously 24/7.

The use of robotic equipment has increased the accuracy of parts manufacturing and reduced the consumption of welding materials due to strict adherence to technology. At the same time, specialists have gained safer working conditions – the operator controls the complex from an external console and is not directly in the zone of high temperatures and welding radiation.

Currently, the robot is used in the production of floor-mounted sealed products for railway automation, including choke coil holders, rail joint connectors, and bushings for support plate connectors. In the future, the enterprise plans to expand the list of products manufactured using robotic welding.
