Iran has created its own railway for the position of the Soviet S-200 surface-to-air missile system (SAM). This was reported by Army Recognition.
The published footage shows a 5P72 launcher with an anti-aircraft missile. The position is connected by a railway to a protected missile storage facility.
Such a design with rail guides is one of the most distinctive features of the Soviet S-200 complex, known in NATO countries as SA-5 Gammon.
The S-200 SAM system includes a 5Yu24 loading vehicle. The rail-mounted unit is capable of automatically performing the launcher loading cycle.
Recall that S-200 missiles are huge and heavy, weighing about 7 tons. It is impossible to quickly reload such a system manually or with an ordinary crane.
The railway connects the shelter with the combat position, allowing ammunition to be quickly and safely delivered from a protected bunker.
