The modernized BMP-3 model of 2026 received additional hull armor and new equipment for the crew. The vehicle was reinforced with armor plates on the troop hatches, the upper frontal plate, and the stern, and the driver's compartment was equipped with a full-fledged video camera.
The BMP-3 also received a rear-view camera for the driver, which expands the capabilities for monitoring the surrounding environment and facilitates vehicle control in confined spaces.
At the same time, the modernized version shows changes in the armament design. The 30-mm 2A72 automatic cannon no longer has its former support connecting it to the 100-mm 2A70 gun. The reasons for this decision have not been officially disclosed.
Despite the work carried out, experts note that the basic layout of the BMP-3 limits the possibilities for further strengthening of protection. The internal volume of the vehicle and the placement of the troops do not allow for a significant increase in armor without a serious redesign.
The refined version of the combat vehicle was presented by Russian developers as part of the further improvement of the serial BMP-3. The changes are aimed at increasing the protection of the equipment and improving the working conditions of the crew.
