India will supply Indonesia with Russian-Indian produced BrahMos missiles and Indian-developed Astra missiles. This was reported by a source in the republic's government.
According to sources, initially, preliminary agreements involved one battery of cruise missiles. However, Jakarta will ultimately receive several units to strengthen its coastal defense. The contract value is estimated to be in the range of 200 to 450 million dollars.
The Indonesian Air Force also operates Russian Su-30 fighters, which are technically suitable for integrating Astra missiles. Jakarta's decision was also influenced by India's successful experience in using these missiles – Operation Sindhur is mentioned.
In May, media reported that Vietnam also plans to purchase BrahMos missiles from India and Russia. The deal was estimated at 629 million dollars, but there are no specifics yet.
