Russia has begun serial production of Su-35 fighters for Iran, forming a new export batch of modern combat aircraft, scheduled for delivery by 2027. According to Defence Security Asia, this involves at least 30 aircraft at various stages of production at Russian aircraft factories.
The project is considered one of the largest military-technical contracts between Moscow and Tehran in recent years. The deliveries are expected to be a key stage in the modernization of the Iranian Air Force, which still relies on outdated American and Soviet platforms, including the F-4 Phantom II, F-14 Tomcat, and MiG-29.
According to data discussed in defense analytics, deliveries could be expanded to several dozen aircraft, but the basic confirmed production package is limited to the initial series, designed to form combat-ready squadrons.
The Su-35 fighter belongs to the 4++ generation, boasts high maneuverability, long-range radar target detection, and the ability to use modern long-range air-to-air missiles. These characteristics are considered critical for strengthening Iran's potential in the tense regional environment.
Earlier, "Pervyy Tekhnicheskiy" reported that Iran acquired three simulators for the Su-35, which simulate the operation of combat aircraft. They allow pilots to practice complex maneuvers and weapon deployment without risk to actual equipment.
