Capital repair of a key boiler has started at Lipetsk's largest heat source. Specialists from RIR Energo Rosatom will completely renew the refractory protection and critical components of the equipment, on which the heat supply of more than a quarter of the entire city depends.
Large-scale modernization has unfolded at Lipetsk CHPP-2, where power engineers have begun a deep restoration of the steam boiler – the core of the power facility. In one hour, this unit heats up to 480 tons of water, which is equivalent to filling three thousand home bathtubs, and any malfunction threatens the stability of heat supply to entire city districts.
The team of the Lipetsk branch of RIR Energo will carry out a complete replacement of the lining – a multi-layer refractory armor that withstands colossal temperatures inside the furnace and saves the metal frame from burnout. In parallel, a defectoscopy of all pipelines of the circulation circuit, repair of the regenerative air preheater, revision of forced draft fans and smoke exhausters, as well as restoration of four safety valves responsible for emergency safety will be carried out.
After the completion of the work, CHPP-2, which covers over 25% of Lipetsk's heat demand, will return to operation with renewed resources and guaranteed reliability for passing peak winter loads.
