A weak magnetic storm of G1 level has been recorded on Earth. As reported by the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of IKI and ISZF SB RAS, the geomagnetic event began around midnight with moderate disturbances and reached storm level approximately three hours ago.
The cause is a rapid increase in solar wind speed under the influence of a coronal hole, which is clearly visible in the images. The phenomenon was predicted yesterday, and according to current estimates, it is at its peak – the intensity will not rise higher.
June generally follows a moderate schedule: four days with magnetic storms have been recorded this month, which is significantly lower than the record figures of the 21st century.
Thus, the current storm does not pose a threat to power grids and satellite communications – it is a routine event in a calm summer season. Earth is passing through a “sleeve” of fast solar wind, after which activity will return to background values.
