The "Russian Arctic" aircraft project has encountered difficulties in transitioning from testing to serial production of individual components, including landing gear for unprepared landing sites. This development is intended for operation in the Far North and for providing transport and departmental tasks in the Arctic region.
According to aircraft designer Yuri Petrov, an honorary polar explorer of Russia and head of the aviation support sector for the Northern Sea Route, prototypes of low-pressure wheels were manufactured and tested, including several successful landings on gravel surfaces, but serial production of the components was never launched.
I cannot achieve basic things, for example, launching serial production of wheels for enlarged diameter and low-pressure landing gear, although prototypes have already been manufactured and successfully tested with landings.
He noted that the project was initially conceived as a multifunctional platform for Arctic transportation, supporting northern deliveries, rescue services, and escorting shipping along the Northern Sea Route. According to him, the lack of a clearly defined decision-making mechanism for serial production is hindering the further development of the program.
