KGEU scientists invent a way to save equipment from power surges

A device without mechanical contacts - only optocouplers and thyristors

Scientists from Kazan State Power Engineering University have patented a device for automatic restoration of voltage sags in the electrical network, according to a publication in the Rospatent database. The development is designed for rapid response to significant voltage drops and protection of connected equipment.

The device consists of a control unit, a switching unit, and a voltage-boosting transformer with two secondary windings. The control unit includes a microcontroller, a power supply unit, a voltage module, and two optocouplers. The switching unit is based on two diode bridges with thyristors in the diagonals.

The technical result is the expansion of the arsenal of contactless means for high-speed automatic voltage regulation. The use of contactless elements allows the device to operate without mechanical wear, increasing reliability and durability. The patent has already been obtained. The development can be used in power supply systems of industrial enterprises, social facilities, and residential buildings where voltage fluctuations are critical.
