The "Olenya" airbase in the Murmansk region has become another basing location for Tu-22M3 strategic missile carriers. This was reported by "Gazeta.Ru" with reference to information from monitoring Telegram channels.
According to preliminary information, four Tu-22M3s took off from this airbase. It is known that these "strategists" can carry Kh-22 and Kh-32 missiles.
"Olenya" is located 92 km south of Murmansk on the Kola Peninsula. The base was built in the mid-1950s in a mountainous area at an altitude of about 200 meters above sea level.
Western media estimated the number of Tu-22M3s in service at 50 active aircraft. Currently, these bombers are no longer mass-produced.
"Pervyy Tekhnicheskiy" answered the main questions about the Tu-22M3 in a large article, including the origin of the nickname "man-eater" for the basic version of the Tu-22 even before modernization.
