Regular disruptions at airports have made passengers more likely to consider insurance against flight delays or cancellations. On June 18 alone, up to 530 flights were delayed and canceled at the Moscow air hub due to a drone attack.
Insurance companies are increasingly automating payments: they track flight status themselves and send the client a link to receive money. Compensation is usually fixed – up to several tens of thousands of rubles. The policy itself costs an average of up to 1,500 rubles, but when purchasing separate tickets for connecting flights, insurance will have to be issued for each flight.
Even when our tourists were delayed in the Middle East in March and could not fly out on time, insurance companies made an automated payment: money came to the person's card.
However, the policy does not cover all situations. In the terms and conditions, you need to separately check whether airport restrictions and other force majeure circumstances are included: such protection can cost up to 10% of the ticket or tour price.
At the same time, insurance does not cancel the usual passenger rights. In case of flight cancellation, you can arrange a forced refund or exchange remotely – through the airline's website, chatbot, or booking management section. For the market, the current demand looks more like a reaction to unstable flights, rather than a mass transition of passengers to a new mandatory service.
