PD-8 Engine Developed in Record Time for the World

25 critical technologies were created for the power plant, 17 of them for the first time

The history of the PD-8 aircraft engine creation is unique in world experience. The development of the power plant took only six years; there have been no such precedents yet, the ODK press service stated.

In total, 25 critical technologies were created for the unit, 17 of them for the first time. The PD-8 passed dozens of complex tests during certification.

The engine was tested for water, hail, bird ingestion, fan blade failure, and its reliable operation was confirmed in extremely low temperatures.

Since then, the engine has accumulated over 6500 hours, 1400 of which were specifically as part of aircraft.

Recall that the power plant will be useful for new Superjets and for the re-engining of Be-200 amphibians. There were also rumors that it would become the base for a new business jet in Ulyanovsk based on the SJ-100.
