The Russian heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser "Admiral Nakhimov" of Project 1144.2M "Orlan", after deep modernization, has effectively transformed into a completely new warship. The updated giant will be able to single-handedly confront an enemy aircraft carrier group, stated military observer Andrey Kots.
The main feature of the cruiser will be its ability to use "Zircon" hypersonic missiles. In addition, the ship will receive modern air defense systems, anti-submarine systems, and significantly enhanced electronic warfare capabilities.
According to military observer Andrey Kots, the modernization has radically increased the combat power of the "Admiral Nakhimov". The cruiser will not only be able to strike naval targets at great distances but also act as the flagship of a large ship group.
Two types of ammunition: MTT thermal torpedoes and M-15 reactive anti-torpedoes. MTT strikes submarines at depths up to 600 m and a range of up to 20 km. M-15 intercepts torpedoes at a distance of up to 1.4 km and a depth of up to 800 m. Both munitions are quite fast – 50 knots.
Chairman of the Russian Maritime Board Nikolai Patrushev noted that the "Admiral Nakhimov" will soon return to service, but did not specify exact dates.
Western journalists have already called the "Admiral Nakhimov" the most dangerous cruiser in the world due to its powerful armament.
