The premiere of the new heavy-duty dump truck "Hercules-45", which is soon to enter production, took place in Moscow. The serial version of the machine was presented by KAMAZ at a commercial vehicle exhibition.
The new product is designed for transporting bulk cargo at construction sites, as well as in coal and ore quarries. Particular interest in the project is due to the fact that "Hercules-45" became the first articulated dump truck fully developed in Russia. Until now, in this segment, domestic companies mainly used foreign equipment.
Work on the model has been ongoing for several years. The first prototype of the "Hercules" family was shown back in 2021, and now the manufacturer has demonstrated a version that will go into serial production at the plant in Naberezhnye Chelny.
The dump truck, known under the index KAMAZ-6558, is equipped with a 520 hp diesel engine and an automatic transmission. The machine received all-wheel drive on all six wheels, rigid axles, and closed-type hydraulic brakes. It also includes an automatic braking system.
The articulated frame design provides high cross-country capability on rough terrain. According to the developers, this solution helps reduce the load on the load-bearing elements, reduces the risk of losing wheel contact with the surface, and allows the use of larger tires. An additional advantage is the relatively small turning radius for equipment of this class.
The volume of the new dump truck's body is 26 cubic meters. In one trip, the machine is capable of transporting up to 41 tons of cargo, and its gross weight reaches 74 tons.
According to preliminary data, the production of "Hercules-45" in small series will start in the second half of this year.
