Long-distance trains in Russia aim to solve the problem of disappearing internet connectivity during journeys. Satellite communication is planned to be implemented in approximately 400 train sets, allowing people to stay online even in areas of the route where mobile internet is currently unavailable.
The project is being launched by the Russian aerospace company "Bureau 1440" and the Federal Passenger Company (FPC). The participants have already approved a plan for implementing satellite communication on long-distance trains.
First, subscriber terminal tests will be conducted on FPC trains. This equipment was developed by "Bureau 1440" specifically for railway transport. After the tests, trial operation of the service will begin.
Alexey Shelobkov, CEO of "Bureau 1440", stated that the project should provide seamless internet access to tens of millions of passengers. Dmitry Pegov, head of FPC, noted that communication is also needed by company employees for operational and technical tasks.
Earlier, "Bureau 1440", together with Russian Railways (RZD), had already approved a roadmap for implementing satellite communication on high-speed "Sapsan" and "Lastochka" trains.
