The Russian fifth-generation fighter Su-57 will receive the new-stage engine "Izdelie 177" without any structural changes to the aircraft. According to Vadim Badeha, CEO of OAK, who informed TASS, the first flight with the new power plant has already taken place and was successful.
Badeha emphasized that today the Su-57 fully meets the requirements for a fifth-generation fighter, and "Izdelie 177" will provide additional capabilities — engine replacement will not require airframe modification. The power plant is currently undergoing tests, and its serial deliveries are expected in the coming years.
The new engine will provide an increase in thrust, which will directly affect the combat radius and the ability to carry an increased payload. For the Su-57 platform, this is an evolutionary step without structural breakage: the airframe remains the same, while capabilities grow. In fact, OAK confirms that the engine development program for the fifth generation is entering the home stretch.
