AvtoVAZ has patented an invention in the field of metallurgy – a multi-component brass intended for use under high loads and friction. The new alloy combines enhanced mechanical properties and anti-friction characteristics, according to a publication in the Rospatent database.
The brass contains copper (58.5–62.5 percent), aluminum (2.0–3.5), manganese (3.0–4.0), silicon (0.10–0.80), phosphorus (0.10–0.50), chromium (0.1–0.3), iron (0.05–0.20). The rest is zinc and impurities (no more than 0.45 percent).
The developers have achieved increased wear resistance of the brass. The new alloy can be used for manufacturing parts operating in friction units – bushings, plain bearings, and other elements of automotive assemblies.
