First large-scale works launched at Russia's most powerful power unit, Kursk NPP-2

New VVER-TOI reactor in Kurchatov enters scheduled maintenance

The first scheduled maintenance has begun at the first power unit of Kursk NPP-2, one of the most modern in Russian nuclear energy, after its launch. The work is being carried out by Rosatom corporation, involving over 500 specialists.

During the maintenance, specialists perform diagnostics and technical maintenance of the main and auxiliary equipment of the reactor and turbine compartments, as well as cleaning of heat exchange systems. Special attention is paid to checking the condition of the equipment at an early stage of operation, when its initial running-in occurs.

According to the station management, such work is considered a standard part of the life cycle of a new generation VVER-TOI power unit. During this period, it is important to timely identify deviations, carry out prevention, and minimize the risks of unscheduled shutdowns, which can affect both safety and operational economics. The power unit operates in the power market, where downtime directly impacts financial performance.

Earlier, "Pervy Tekhnichesky" reported that the new VVER-TOI reactor at Kursk NPP-2 set a record of 2 billion kWh since its launch.
