The Russian strategic reconnaissance aircraft Tu-214R performed a flight in the Karelia region and the northwestern borders near Finland, where it monitored military infrastructure and ground objects. The rare aircraft RF-64514 took off from an airfield in Kazan, then flew along the Finnish direction and returned via the Tersky Coast and the Komi Republic. This was reported by the analytical Telegram channel "Russkoye Oruzhie".
The Tu-214R is considered one of the most classified and technologically complex reconnaissance aircraft. The machine is equipped with the MRK-411 radar complex with an active phased array antenna. The equipment operates in several ranges simultaneously and is capable of detecting equipment, artillery positions, air defense systems, and column movements even in difficult wooded terrain.
During the flight, the aircraft could conduct radar imaging of objects up to several hundred kilometers deep. The complex supports SAR and ISAR modes, allowing for detailed images of terrain and equipment regardless of time of day and weather conditions.
The aircraft's route near the Vuosanga training ground, where large-scale Northern Strike 26 exercises are taking place, attracted interest. The minimum distance to the area was about 80–100 kilometers, which may indicate testing and adjustment of reconnaissance equipment in real conditions.
