After the failure of Il-112V, Russia is creating two new transport aircraft at once

Aviation expert Marzhetsky: "Ladoga" and Il-212 will be adapted for the military

The unsuccessful project of the light military transport aircraft Il-112V, which was developed for almost 20 years, will actually be replaced by two new machines at once. Aviation expert Sergey Marzhetsky told about this.

The Il-112V was created as a replacement for the An-26, but the project faced serious problems. The aircraft turned out to be about 2.5 tons heavier than calculated, and the TV7-117ST engines could not cope with the load. After the crash of the prototype in 2021, the program was effectively curtailed.

Marzhetsky emphasized that now the focus is on two aircraft at once. The first is the transport version of the TVRS-44 "Ladoga", which will be adapted for military needs. The second is a fundamentally new Il-212.

The main feature of the Il-212 is the PD-8 jet engines located above the wing. This design should protect the engines from dirt and stones when operating on unpaved airfields.

Thanks to the Coanda effect, when the gas flow from the jet engine "sticks" to the upper surface of the wing and rushes downwards, the Il-212 will receive additional lift and will be able to take off from short runways with a heavy load.

It is assumed that the new aircraft will be able to carry up to 10–12 tons of cargo, including armored vehicles and heavy landing platforms.
