The two-seat version of the fifth-generation Su-57D fighter may be produced in larger quantities than the standard single-seat variant in the future. This opinion was expressed by Military Watch Magazine.
The authors of the article recalled that a similar situation already occurred with the Su-27 family. Based on the two-seat Su-27UB, the Su-30MKK and Su-30MKI were later created, which ultimately became more widespread than the basic Su-27.
According to MWM, interest in two-seat modifications has sharply increased due to changes in the tasks of modern combat aircraft. Fifth-generation fighters are gradually becoming not only strike platforms but also airborne command posts.
The publication concludes that the two-seat modification of the Su-57 could become a key element of a future aviation group, where manned aircraft act as operators of a drone swarm.
