The Russian main battle tank T-80BVM has become much quieter when approaching a firing position due to improvements in its running gear. A gunner of the combat vehicle spoke about it.
When you drive, the enemy practically doesn't hear you, because our "tracks" are also rubberized from the inside. There's no track roller clatter, the vehicle drives smoothly.
It should be noted that by "tracks" the serviceman means the tank's tracks. The rubber coating on the inside sharply reduces the metallic clatter when the rollers contact the track belt.
Rubber elements and torsion bar suspension also dampen vibration. The tank moves smoothly, without creating a strong low-frequency hum that transmits through the ground.
Furthermore, unlike diesel tanks that produce a loud rumbling sound, the gas turbine engine on the T-80BVM operates on the principle of an aircraft engine. At a distance, its whistle blends with ambient noise.
