Interdepartmental exercises were held in Kamchatka Krai to practice the full cycle of evacuating injured people in mountainous terrain using a Mi-8 helicopter. The training involved specialists from Rostec's air ambulance (NSSA) and the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations for Kamchatka Krai, the Territorial Center for Disaster Medicine, and KGKU "TsOD".
According to the scenario, a group of tourists sustained injuries while climbing Mount Krainyaya. An NSSA Mi-8 helicopter with rescuers and doctors on board was deployed for evacuation. Due to the complex terrain, landing was not possible, so the aircraft was held in a hovering mode above the slope.
Rescuers descended to the injured person using rappelling devices. After locating the tourist, EMERCOM employees secured him on a stretcher for subsequent hoisting.
A key stage of the operation was lifting the injured person aboard using an onboard winch. NSSA noted that the operation requires precise coordination between the helicopter crew, maintaining a stable position of the aircraft, and rescuers on the ground, controlling the cable. Any oscillations or rotation of the load could pose a threat to the safety of the injured person.
After being lifted aboard, medics from the Disaster Medicine Center practiced providing assistance during flight. The helicopter then proceeded to the patient transfer point for further transportation to a medical facility.
