Internet restrictions in 2026 caused Russians more anxiety than the topic of coronavirus at the height of the pandemic. This conclusion was reached by KROS analysts in their study "National Index of Russian Anxieties".
For the first time since 2022, the topic of internet restrictions has topped the list of public concerns. The top five most alarming topics also included drone attacks on Russian regions, sabotage, financial fraudsters, "Epstein files," and the war in Iran.
The authors of the study link the rise in anxiety primarily to the blocking of social networks and disruptions in mobile internet services. Additional concern among people is caused by possible problems with bank card and QR code payments.
The Kremlin previously explained the restrictions by security considerations. Dmitry Peskov stated that such measures are related to the protection of citizens and infrastructure. Vladimir Putin, in turn, instructed to develop a mechanism for the uninterrupted operation of vital digital services.
KROS notes that internet disconnections have affected almost all segments of society, as they impacted not only access to information but also people's daily lives.
The total anxiety index for internet restrictions reached 1735.1 – significantly higher than other discussed topics. For comparison, the topic of the war in Iran received an indicator of 221.82.
