Chinese tires seized Russia amid a decline in local production

Tire imports from China increased by 30%, while Russian production sharply decreased

The production of passenger car tires in Russia from January 1 to April 12, 2026, decreased by 23.8% to 7.4 million units. This was reported by the operator of the "Chestny Znak" labeling system.

Against this background, tire imports, on the contrary, increased by 18.1% and reached 9.9 million units. China became the main supplier, now accounting for about 80% of all passenger car tire imports.

Deliveries of Chinese tires increased by 30% over the year. South Korea, Uzbekistan, Japan, and Thailand are next among the largest importers.

At the same time, Chinese tires continue to win on price. The average cost of tires from China decreased by 11.7%, while Russian tires rose in price by 13.5%.

Earlier it was reported that SIBUR is forced to export most of its synthetic rubber, as domestic consumption by the tire industry remains limited.
