A fire broke out this morning, May 11, at the Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant (CherMK, part of Severstal company) in the coke-chemical production area. The fire was localized in less than two hours and completely extinguished by noon. According to the enterprise and city services, the incident did not affect the production program and did not result in any casualties.
As reported by Evgeny Vinogradov, General Director of the "Severstal – Russian Steel" division and resource assets, the situation was under the control of emergency services, including EMERCOM units, Technospas specialists, and Cherepovets city services. He noted that the Apatit company also assisted in extinguishing the fire by providing an additional tank with foam concentrate, and the city administration ensured prompt information dissemination.
According to Andrey Nakroshaev, head of Cherepovets, the fire covered an area of about 300 square meters. There was no threat of the fire spreading beyond the enterprise. Specialists also did not record any exceedance of permissible concentrations of harmful substances in the air.
It is separately emphasized that the production process at CherMK continues as usual, and the incident did not affect the company's plans.
