Russia played an important role in the development of Indian rocket engine building, but now India has achieved a high degree of independence in this area and is actively developing its own technologies. This was stated by Pyotr Topychkanov, head of a sector at IMEMO RAS.
According to him, India no longer needs Russian spaceports because it has its own. In the 1990s, the Russian Federation faced the fact that India no longer considered itself merely a recipient. It was interested in developing its own technologies.
Now we are dealing with an India that is integrated into the international system of technology exchange and development. It does not look only in our direction and is interested in creating technologies within its own country.
That is, Russia's current role is not a supplier, but rather a safety net that India turns to when it comes to something no one else has.
It should be recalled that in the 90s, Russia and India signed a contract for the supply of cryogenic engines. The deal caused strong opposition from the United States, which, under the pretext of combating the proliferation of missile technologies, imposed sanctions against India's ISRO and Russia's Glavkosmos.
