Replacement of Microelectronics Chips for Combat Aviation Failed in Russia

Minpromtorg fined "VZZP-Mikron" for 475-day project delay

Minpromtorg fined the Voronezh plant "VZZP-Mikron" 16.4 million rubles for a 475-day delay in the development of electronic modules. These modules were intended to replace American ST Microelectronics chips for defense and space technology.

The parties signed a contract worth 162 million rubles in November 2018, with a completion deadline of September 2022.

The deadline for the second stage of work, including the production of prototypes, was planned for November 2020, but was actually completed in March 2022. The delay amounted to 475 days.

"VZZP-Mikron" was supposed to master the serial production of modules for protecting on-board computers, high-speed interfaces, and highly integrated systems within the framework of the state program "Development of the Defense-Industrial Complex".

The new products were intended to replace American modules ESDA6V1L, USBLC6-2SC6Y, USBLC6-4, and others.

Earlier, it became known that a new plant for electronic products for the defense industry would be launched in the Urals by the end of 2027. Presumably, it will start producing chips for S-500 "Prometey" radar stations, Su-57, and other military equipment.
